Start your vacation with an engaging run, jog, or walk through one of the prettiest neighbors in the town of Avon with this weekly summertime race that will entice active vacationers of all ages. The Hatteras 5k Race Series is held every Monday in the prime summer season, and is a great and engaging way to explore everything that this island has to offer in terms of beautiful scenery and stellar views.
The race launches in the central town of Avon, which is one of the largest communities on Hatteras Island. The course veers through the Kinnakeet Shores community, which is a pretty wooded neighborhood with little traffic and plenty of shaded side streets that hug the edge of the Pamlico Sound. All participants receive a free T-shirt and unique finisher medal, and trophy awards are given to the fastest male and female finishers in the Overall and Masters Brackets. A light post-race breakfast is also provided for participants at the finish line by The Shore Chef, and folks are free to linger after the race to enjoy some refreshments, and some company with fellow racing fans. A fun event for all ages, this early morning race is a great way to discover the cool communities of Hatteras Island.
