The Graveyard of the Atlantic and home of the Mysterious Lost Colony is rife with legends and lore. The Outer Banks has its share, and two walking tours bring them to life. Based in downtown Manteo, the tours meet at the corner of Budleigh and Queen Elizabeth streets. Interpreters explore stories of Blackbeard the pirate whose headless body was said to swim around his ship the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Explore the mystery of the Ghost Ship of Diamond Shoals and what happened to her crew. Have you ever wondered if dolphins can really communicate with sailors or from where the sayings “Blue Monday” or “Mind your P’s and Q’s” come?
Did you know there are sea captains that haunt local restaurants? Is there really a ghost child on the Manteo boardwalk or are the cats you see on the tour real of spirits?
Choose from three tours that run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 8 p.m.
Questions and apparitions alike are explored in 90-minute waling tours with stops along the way. Private tours are available for groups of 12 or more. Reservations are recommended so as not to miss a ghostly good time!
