Creative and curious kids alike will love attending this session that shines a spotlight on a unique art form that’s centuries old, but which fits in perfectly with the Outer Banks landscape. Fish Printing for Kids is a special class that is hosted by the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, and which is sure to further a love of art, nature, and all-things-coastal for visiting and local creative kids alike.
The Fish Printing for Kids class is held in the heart of Corolla, within the Currituck Heritage Park on the edge of the Currituck Sound. During the roughly hour-long session, kids will learn all about Gyotaku, which is better known as Japanese Fish Printing, and which was the original way that Japanese fishermen kept track of their various catches. Now considered an art form, kids will learn about the ancient history of Gyotaku as they create their own masterpiece in a fun, sometimes messy, and hands-on environment. This event is open to all kids ages 5 and up, and is a great opportunity to discover a new way to create while paying homage to the local and coastal landscape of the Outer Banks. The class is free, although advanced registration is required to attend.
