This no-nonsense fish house is the real Outer Banks deal, selling the freshest local-caught shell fish available. Situated on the southern tip of Nags Head, the little gray building stands on the edge of Roanoke Sound with a beautiful view of Manteo. This business has been in the same native family since 1957, and came close to having to shut down in 2011 from damages during Hurricane Irene. But the owners repaired the water damage and repainted the modest retail section a bright blue. Like its name implies, fresh Outer Banks crab meat, picked by Daniels’ own crabbers, is for sale here. Crab, male and female, can also be purchased by the dozen or the bushel, in jumbo lump meat or claws. Steamed crab is also available, as well as fresh local shrimp and clams. Soft shell crabs, also known as peelers, are available in-season in the early summer. Even snow crab from northern waters is available here, purchased from a Wanchese fish dealer.
