Captain Rick Caton is an experienced waterman who runs Custom Sound Charters out of Oden’s Dock in Hatteras Village. He offers a variety of trips such as the Waterman and Inlet Adventures.
The Waterman teaches several ways that seafood is harvested. The trip is on the calmer, backwaters of Pamlico, Croatan and Roanoke Sounds. Live like a waterman by pulling in a shrimp net, catching crabs and doing rod and reel fishing for flounder, trout, bluefish and Spanish mackerel. This is a great trip for families, and children always are welcome to fish with Captain Rick.
Inlet Adventures includes light tackle wreck fishing for black sea bass and triggerfish. You also can troll for Spanish and king mackerel and bluefish. Try sight casting for cobia and red drum and drift backwaters for flounder, sea mullet, croakers and trout.
Captain Rick offers half- and full-day trips. The kind of species you target depends on the weather and season. Tackle and bait is supplied. You bring food and drinks, sunscreen and wear sensible sport shoes. Call to make a reservation. Oden's dock is open year round.
