Crabbing is a big part of life on the North Carolina coastline, and new explorers of all ages can learn all about the fundamentals, techniques, and tricks that are involved in this generations-old practice that’s alive and well on the Outer Banks. This Crabbing class is open to visitors of all ages, and is a great way to discover a unique aspect of the OBX fishing scene while enjoying a hands-on activity that will be a memorable part of any coastal vacation.

The Crabbing class is held at the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, which is a sprawling site that’s located on the edge of the Currituck Sound in the heart of Corolla village. During the event, attendees will learn all about the importance of crabbing in the state and coastline’s economy, and will then head to the water to try their own hand at catching blue crabs from the wide sound waters. Wildlife staff will enlighten attendees on the varying techniques used for catching crabs – including hand lining – and students will pick up an arsenal of new fishing skills to enjoy well after their vacation is over. The class is free for all visitors, however advanced registration is required and can be secured online, or by calling 252.453.0221 ex. 1.
