Educational opportunities abound at College of the Albemarle whether pursuing a degree or taking continuing education courses at the community college.
With an average class size of 12, the college offers a great atmosphere with seasoned professors at the helm. What sets the Dare Campus apart is the Professional Jewelry School with Kathryn Osgood as the head of the department. Osgood brings a level of excellence to the school, being a world-class jewelry designer in her own right. Students learn a wide variety of jewelry-making techniques, but more importantly, they learn how to nurture their individual creativity and how to market the end results. The onsite gallery hosts shows year round and the students also have exhibitions in galleries throughout the county putting them upfront in the art world.
Students at COA pursue Associates degrees, diplomas and certificates in a wide variety of fields including architecture, law enforcement, computer technology, nursing and more. Continuing Education is a great way to dabble in a new field or brush up on current computer classes including digital photography, Adobe Photoshop, web design and more. There are approximately 30 fields from which to choose overall at COA. Yes, opportunities abound, but also, how can you beat a campus that is a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean? The college is open year round. Hours vary depending on classes. Call ahead for art gallery hours.
