For generations, researchers, scientists and everyday observers have reported unusual behavior in plants and animals in the moments leading up to a solar eclipse, and on this August 21 event, visitors can record their own observations to see if these varying theories are indeed true. Held at the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, the unique Citizen Science Series: Eclipse BioBlitz is an opportunity to explore the local wildlife in a truly once-in-a-lifetime environment and atmosphere.

At this unique session, NC WRC staff will work with participants to record eclipse-related animal behavior using the iNaturalist app. After a brief introduction to the app and the theories of animal and plant behavior at play during a solar eclipse, participants will go out into the wild of the surrounding park along the Currituck Sound to record their observations over the course of an hour. After this exploration, everyone will regroup to share their findings in a brief and enlightening summary. Fun for all ages, this event is completely free to all budding scientists, although attendees will need to sign up for the session beforehand either online, or by calling 252.453.0221 ex. 1. Join in the fun, and celebrate this unique event with an adventure that can only be found in the northern Outer Banks.
