Barr-ee Station 2

In case all the changes to the OBX sometimes make you forget where you are, it’ll all come back when you step inside Barr-ee Station 2 in Kitty Hawk. From the art on the walls - a huge sculptured sun nearly filling one - and the sounds of reggae filling in the spaces, browsing through this casual beach boutique will remind you of a walk on the beach.

The main attraction here is casual fashion and beachwear for teens to young adults at discounted prices all season and even more so during off-season sales.

Accessories include costume and beach jewelry, sunglasses, ladies fabric handbags and shoes. Men’s shoes are geared toward skate & surf, and for women there are trendy dress heels to sandals. You’ll also find a few supplies needed for surfing and skateboarding.

One local artist displaying her work at Station 2 is Dawn Gray, a local surfer whose paintings are inspired by her sport.  Further inspiring is her generosity. She donates 50% of the sales of her prints, as well as her time, to help support a Nicaraguan Art Mission.

Also part of the shop’s décor are a few very nice for-sale antique reproductions that help display Barr-ee’s beach-themed gifts like cast iron mermaids and fish bottle-openers and a collection of jewelry by Rain and others, some made with sterling and semi-precious stones, including  larimar and turquoise, and other natural treasures like amber.

You’ll find this cozy little beach shop, naturally, on the Beach Road, near the Hilton Inn and the old Kitty Hawk Pier. The shop is open all year, with an altered schedule in the fall.
