Ashtanga Yoga Center offers several yoga classes daily ranging in all levels from introductory to advanced Mysore practice. Individual classes are available for a modest price, or a ten-class pass is available at a discounted rate.
Weekly classes include Introduction to Ashtanga (level 1), Ashtanga Prep (level 2), Primary Series (level 3), as well as Hatha Yoga and Mysore for all levels of experience. Check the studio's website for weekly class offerings and note the studio will be closed when classes are not in session. Adhering to Ashtanga Yoga tradition, Ashtanga Yoga Center is closed on Saturdays and on Moon Days, days of full and new moons. Occasional weekend events, workshops and ceremonies are offered in addition to the weekly scheduled classes. Oceanfront retreats and workshops by visiting yogis are frequently offered.
Owned by yoga instructor Michelle Dorer, this yoga studio offers practice of Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the Krishnamacharya lineage. The practice follows a traditional Ashtanga sequence, combining breathing and postures to enhance the health and wellness of those who practice.
The studio uses heat to enhance flexibility in yoga poses. In the winter, heaters will be on full blast. During the summer, do not expect air conditioning. Bring a towel and be prepared to sweat into your downward dog.
Some studio etiquette: Arrive a few minutes before the scheduled class start and take off your shoes before entering the studio. Be sure your cell phone is turned off during class. You can borrow one of the studio’s mats or bring your own. Yoga accessories, such as blankets, blocks and straps are available for you to borrow as well.
