After its first season in 2011, Armstrong Seafood has been steadily building its business mostly from great word-of-mouth reports about its fresh seafood and nicely-done storefront. Owned and operated by a former Outer Banks waterman whose family works in the seafood industry in Hyde and Dare counties, the store offers only local fresh catch in the summer, including shrimp, crabs, scallops and finfish. In the winter, there may be fish from different areas, but it will be American-caught if at all possible. Sandwiches are made from salad made with fresh tuna, salmon or wahoo, and steamer buckets of shrimp, snow crab, clams and lobster, with corn on the cob and potatoes, can be ordered in advance. Fresh produce is available in season --- strawberries, Hyde County onions, potatoes, cantaloupes, sweet corn --- and hush puppies, Key Lime pie and homemade cole slaw are also available. The store also stocks beer, wine, seafood sauces and breading and hot crab dip. Special orders are welcomed.

Located just south of Nags Head, Coquina Beach is a refreshingly undeveloped stretch of shoreline that's close to the central Outer Banks towns of Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, and Kitty Hawk, but feels like it's miles away.
The Roanoke Marshes lighthouse is often one of the most overlooked of the Outer Banks lighthouses, simply because of its small stature, limited visibility and remote location tucked away at the quiet east end of the Manteo waterfront.
