The town of Manteo has a rich history that’s connected to sailing and life on the water, and competitive sailors and spectators alike can celebrate this heritage with the Annual One-Design Regatta. Hosted by the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum, and held in a sunny locale that borders the historic downtown waterfront, this regatta is open to Optimist, 420, Sunfish, Topaz UNO and Topaz ARGO sailboats, and is sure to be a fun event that will attract mariners and visitors of all ages and abilities.
The first race starts at noon, and sailors can sign up to compete in advance via an entry form that can be picked up at the Maritime Museum. The $25 entry fee includes a free T-shirt commemorating the event, as well as a ticket to the post-race dinner where awards will be presented to the top free finishers in each class. Meanwhile, spectators can find a sunny bench or seat along the waterfront in Manteo to watch the action and enjoy the sunny scene. A unique race that’s celebrating more than 20 years, this event is sure to wow participants and visitors alike who want to soak up the incredible and authentic sailing culture of downtown Manteo.
