In terms of aesthetics and functionality, we’ve upgraded the upper-level windows to large-picture windows. This change will not only beautify the views of the sunsets but also allow for an abundance of natural light, complemented by custom woodwork trim and stylish shiplap accents.

On the exterior, we’re introducing all-new railings on the decks and stylish beach-themed furniture, adding both safety and charm to your outdoor experience.

Situated on almost eight acres of land, The Oaks offers privacy, seclusion, and close proximity to all of the activities Kinnakeet Shores has to offer. The Oaks is the crown jewel of Kinnakeet Shores, offering seven large main-bedroom suites and a full array of Avon amenities. The Oaks has two carports, ground-floor elevator access, covered showers, and a hot tub and pool with sun decks. A large recreation room with a pool table, an entertainment center, a fridge, and a wet bar overlooks the sound and covered terraces. The laundry is close by on the third-floor landing. Crowning The Oaks is the fourth-level great room with 18-foot ceilings, panoramic vistas, a fireplace, upscale furnishings, and an entertainment system. The world-class kitchen with granite countertops is perfect for large groups.

This beautiful home offers a host of activities. The Oaks' 1,800-foot private boardwalk winds through a bird and wildlife refuge, making it a nature lover's paradise. At the sound front, the path opens to a large deck ideal for windsurfing, kayaking, crabbing, sunbathing, and fishing. Enjoy private access and explore the scenic sound-side beach while observing a wide variety of wildlife. In addition to the home's private pool, you have access to two other pools - the Kinnakeet Shores community pool and tennis courts complex and the Club Hatteras pool. With so much to offer, The Oaks is a unique vacation experience.

Things to Know

  • The private pool is open seasonally from  4/26/2025 and closes 10/12/2025. Dates are subject to change. The pool will open seasonally from 04/01/2026 and close 10/10/2026. Dates are subject to change.
  • Pool heat is available for an additional $60/night fee, with at least 24-48 hours advance notice. Pool heat cannot be purchased from mid-June to mid-September.
  • Guests can access Kinnakeet Shores Pool & Tennis. You will receive an amenity pass during check-in to utilize the shared facility.
  • Please check individual amenity listings for open dates due to some off-season closures.
  • You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking, which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.
  • This property is managed by Vacasa North Carolina LLC.
  • 2 dogs welcome in this home. No other animals are allowed without specific Vacasa approval.
  • Parking notes: There is free parking available for 7 vehicles.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
