Pack up a picnic lunch and head south to the Salvo Day Use Area on the west side of the island or take a drive on the sand accessible via Ramp 23, just half-mile south. Take a short walk to browse the unique hand-crafted wares at Pea Island Art Gallery, a replica 1874 station home displaying paintings, pottery, woodwork, and glass by regional artists. If you want to do some pier fishing, check out the Rodanthe Pier, three-and-a-half miles north, or the Avon Fishing pier, less than 14 miles south.
