Join the crew of the iconic Skipjack Wilma Lee for a fun and educational adventure in the heart of Ocracoke village. During this special morning session in the summertime, visitors will learn all about this ship from the inside out, as well as the mechanics that make the historic vessel – and other boats that flock to Silver Lake Harbor – stay afloat in rough and calm local waters.

Visitors to this free event will be allowed to climb aboard the Skipjack Wilma Lee, which is a stand-out vessel along the Community Docks in Ocracoke Village that was built in 1940, and which has earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Once aboard the locally anchored ship, visitors will tour the boat in its entirety, learning about the anatomy of the Wilma Lee itself, as well as other vessels that are frequently found in the local harbor – from sailboats to fishing vessels. Picking up a little terminology and newfound skills along the way – like knot tying – this is a great experience for budding mariners of all ages who want to know more about this iconic vacation destination. With lots to explore, this adventure will be a favorite highlight for any island vacationer who adores life on the water.
