Hatteras Island and the Outer Banks serves as the temporary home to hundreds of sea turtles who head to the local beaches every year to lay their eggs, and during this special presentation that’s designed especially for kids, visitors will learn all about how sea turtles embark on this dangerous journey, and the efforts being made to conserve and protect these endangered species.

The weekly Turtle Talk is held at the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge’s visitors center, which is located directly on NC Highway 12, just a few miles north of the Hatteras Island town of Rodanthe. Lasting roughly an hour, kids will hear all about the sea turtles that frequent the local shorelines, and will even have an opportunity to create their own turtle craft to take home as a treasured souvenir. The event is held every week during the summer months, and is free for visitors of all ages. Serving as a great way for younger visitors to get excited about sea turtle conservation while also learning a ton about these gentle giants, the Turtle Talks at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is a favorite activity during any vacation, and is a great way to combine a little learning and a lot of fun.
