Stand-up paddle boarders can test their abilities against local and visiting SUP fans alike at this sunny August event that includes a challenging 8-mile open water race in one of the most famous watersports destinations on the Outer Banks. SUPtastic WAVES is held at the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Rodanthe, and is a unique race that cruises through the shallow waters of the Pamlico Sound. Along the way, paddle boarders can expect to catch amazing views of the tri-villages, (Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo), as well as the slim coastline of Hatteras Island. The race will test both skill and endurance to be sure, and covers eight full miles of the local watery terrain.

After the race, prizes and a tempting lunch will follow at the Good Winds Restaurants, with top honors going to the first finishers of the competition. The cost to enter the race is roughly $25-$35 and visitors can pre-register online before their Hatteras Island vacation at http://www.kittyhawk.com/event/suptastic/. Serving as a cool way to discover one of the best destinations for watersports on the Eastern Seaboard, the SUPtastic WAVES highlights how much fun the Pamlico Sound waters can be through a competition that SUP fans of all abilities will enjoy.
