On August 21, Outer Banks visitors and residents will be treated to one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer – the 2017 solar eclipse. Visitors who want to amp up their viewing fun can ring in the occasion by attending the Solar Eclipse Party, which will be held at one of the tallest vantage points in the central Outer Banks, Jockey’s Ridge State Park.

Glasses will be distributed to view the solar eclipse starting at 1 p.m. at the visitors center of the Jockey’s Ridge State Park, and folks are encouraged to bring along water, beach chairs, beach blankets or towels, and everything they’ll need to get comfortable for the show. The Partial eclipse begins at 1:23 PM, is at the maximum at 2:49 PM, and ends at 4:08 PM, and folks along the ridge will have an amazing vantage point with 87% coverage. Sponsored by NC Space Grant and SC Space Grant, this unique afternoon outing serves as a great opportunity to catch a once in a lifetime event from one of the most scenic destinations on the Outer Banks. Fun for all ages, the Solar Eclipse party is free to visitors and locals of all ages who want to catch an incredible and natural show.
