Young explorers can follow in the footsteps of the original Roanoke Island adventurers who landed on the Outer Banks hundreds of years ago with this special day camp that combines learning with lots of outdoor play.

The “Roanoke Island Explorers – Nature Play” camp is hosted by the North Carolina Aquarium and is held at the “Lost Woods” in the heart of Manteo. During this multi-day adventure, kids will be able to build their own tools, go on a fun scavenger hunt, enjoy lots of crafts with materials plucked from the natural setting, and learn a lot about the local environment, as well as the first explorers who first landed on the island in the late 1500s. There will also be live animal explorations, as well as tons of playtime in Roanoke Island’s great outdoors. Closed toe shoes and a bag lunch are required, and interested campers can sign up for this five day event online through the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island’s website. With miles of fun to go around, and lots of active playtime that features plenty of ways to learn and explore, this day camp will be a favorite summertime activity for local and visiting nature fans alike.
