More than just a beach house, The Merry Duck is your inviting beach home away from home! Welcome to the perfect oasis for the most relaxing vacation ever!!!

The Merry Duck is nestled in the quiet and peaceful Sea Tern Community that has private neighborhood access to both the beach and the sound just a short walk away! This beautiful cedar shake home is surrounded by the sweeping limbs of majestic live oak trees and the natural beauty of the resident deer, bunnies and birds. While staying in this spacious home, you'll feel like you have escaped reality while you actually only need to drive or bike a short distance to find yourselves in the lovely Village of Duck or the Sanderling resort with a myriad of shopping and dining options. You might not even need to venture beyond the borders of Duck during your stay!

The home itself is stocked with so much family fun, you might not leave during your entire stay! Flat screen TVs are located in the Great Room as well in each bedroom for streaming movies or for playing discs from the DVD library. Downstairs you will find a newly renovated and wonderful game room with a pool table, foosball table, convertible chess/poker table, dartboard, flat screen TV with PlayStation 3 and a full-sized futon.

The kitchen of the Merry Duck was updated in 2020 with a Samsung induction range and Samsung microwave, as well as an LG French door refrigerator. The induction range heats up extremely fast while keeping the kitchen up to 60% cooler while cooking during the warm summer months! Just steps from the kitchen, this home offers a screened in porch with luxurious wicker chairs and glass topped table perfect for an outside dinner, drinks or game of cards.

The expansive decking on this home is designed for the ultimate peace and tranquility while enjoying the nature you can find just outside your door. Each bedroom has its own separate access to the massive back decking and to the backyard. Wander outside to read a book in one of the porch swings or seats on one of the front or back decks, relax in the hammock situated on the middle level of the back deck or climb up to the "crow's nest" to enjoy secluded sunbathing while enjoying the ocean breezes among the treetops! Just off the massive back decks, you will find the oversized pool (13'x36'), poolside loungers, tables & chairs including both wood and gas fire pit tables and also a large family picnic table. The hot tub was replaced in October 2019 with a brand new Hot Springs Hot Spot 7-person spa that offers relaxation and hydrotherapy!

When you pick a day or days for the beach (just 390 yards away) enjoy the beach chairs for adults & children to make that day even more relaxing. For an adventure get on the bikes and tour the bird sanctuary or take 1 or 2 of the one-seater kayaks or the tandem fishing kayak with life jackets and paddles and explore the waters from the private sound access dock (just 100 yards away just across Rt 12). Duck in july

The rental was great as always .. we had a couple things wrong with the rental this trip . First the garage door wasn’t working part on order then there were 3 rooms without smoke detectors and then Thursday the AC on the top floor stopped working.. But we still had a fabulous time and we already rebooked same place for next year ..

Merry Duck experience

The rental was great could use a new couch and trees trimmed back from pool area other then it was awesome. We are going back next year this past stay was are 4th in a row at the merry Duck so that should say all that needs to be said great place ..

Outer banks vacation

The Merry Duck is a great place to stay while at the outer banks love the upgrades done so far. Would like to see another refrigerator added one just isn’t enough room. We already booked for next year so that should say everything ��

Overall a very nice beach house. Only issue was the VERY firm mattresses in the master bedrooms. Woke up a few nights with a numb arm but I'm older and perhaps more sensitive to that. The deck around the pool could use a power wash and general clean but the pool and hot tub were wonderful and clean. The house was very clean and updated. Appliances appeared to be new and in excellent condition. Living room and dining were very spacious. It is a trilevel so be prepared to do a lot stair climbing especially since kitchen is on top level. Take this into account if you have someone with ambulatory issues. Beach was a walkable distance and access to the sound opposite was very nice. A lot of traffic on main road but we were there at peak season as well. Beach was not too crowded and very nice. There was quite a bit stocked in the home for use by renters that we didn't know about or we wouldn't have packed so much for the trip. Nice touch. Also, if you're a seafood lover try the steam pot that you pick up and make in your was wonderful. It was a memorable vacation for my family who so needed to get away and enjoy life on the beach for a while.

House was well kept and had plenty to do. Game room, pool and hot tub. Short walk to the beach providing the best of all worlds. It was nice to walk home for lunch on the deck and stroll back to the beach if and when we wanted.

We were Merry in Duck

It was a welcome vacation as we had not seen our kids in over six months. The Merry Duck was clean and well supplied. The amenities were just what we needed since we didn’t want to go out a lot. We used the bikes, kayaks, hot tub, and pool table. The pool area and pool were not clean. I did call the company that was supposed to come twice a week to manage the pool and hot tub. We never saw them. The distance to the beach was good. The kitchen was every renters dream. Great appliances, plenty of pans, dishes and cooking and bake ware. The cupboards are tall and the have a step stool if needed. The access to the sound was made easy with the equipment on wheels to move the kayaks.

Great stay at the Merry Duck

Overall the stay was fantastic. Great location to the beach and to the sound. The house was filled with indoor and outdoor activities and close enough to Duck for nightlife. Only issue was the WiFi was not always working. Which for a vacation I understand we should shut off electronics however I have teenagers and even the Merry Duck wasn’t enough to keep them interested the whole time. As I stated though. I would return.

first time to duck traffic horendous but that was the only negative. house had everything you need, close to beach. would do it again

The property was as described. All the extra amenities were awesome, bikes, kayaks, pool floats and toys, fire pit, pool table, games, movies, books, basketball, etc.. Only complaint is that the dish tv service had been damaged in the storm and after multiple calls to the agent it wasn't repaired until the last evening of our stay.

The Merry Duck - House #: 4100 :2016 Stay

We had a wonderful time staying at this rental property the week of July 02nd 2016. I liked the community it was located in : Sea Tern
The gas grille was a great feature. The furniture was a little dated in the living room area. The outside fenced in porch should be fixed so you would use it at night.

It Lived Up To Its Name

We had a great time. The house was just like in the pictures. We went with our son and his family which included two little boys so the pack n play and high chair were a life saver. The kitchen had everything we needed. It was just an overall wonderful experience. We would stay there again.

Great House!

This is a great vacation rental with many extras - bikes, beach chairs and equipment, etc. The only improvement it needs is better TV service either through an upgrade of DirectTV or switching to cable. The current DirectTV package is very limited.

The Merry Duck

We had a great time, We found the home as represented. An improvement that could be made, along with the bath towels that are supplied with the rental, including bathmats for all the baths and showers would be welcome. I don't like stepping out onto a tiled floor. Also, the coffeemaker was not checked by the cleaning staff before our arrival, we found a coffee filter filled with moldy coffee grounds. All in all A good time was had by all.
