Great House and Great Location

We booked this house for four adults and an infant. We had plenty of space and never felt crowded. The beach access is only a few houses away which was very convenient. We loved being able to walk to the beach every morning. The house itself was clean, had all the specified amenities plus a little extra. We loved spending time out on the deck, enjoying the view, sound of the waves, and the ocean breeze. There is a grocery store and lots of restaurants a short drive away. We had one small issue our first night where a smoke alarm started chirping to signal low battery around 3am. The rental company was friendly and prompt in their response, and they sent someone out the next morning. They followed up to make sure the work was complete and there were no other issues. Overall we were happy with our stay and would not hesitate to book this house again when our child is a little older.

Relaxing Beach Vacation

House was clean and lovely! Lots of space for our family of 8. It was nice to have separate spaces for two families. Not far to the beach and the pool was so nice and quite near. Our rental was ready before 4:00 and that was an added bonus!

Excellent getaway

Star Sailor was exactly what I was looking for in a rental. Majority of the house appears to be newly updated, especially the master bathrooms and the kitchen. It has all the kitchen needs met and the house was very clean upon arrival. We rented the sheets and towels and they were perfectly clean and there were plenty. I recommend spending the money on this. The hot tub was a nice addition to the house and the beach is about 1 house off the beach. The washer wasn't working for us but I’m sure it was a temporary issue. I’d certainly rent again.

Wonderful beach home

Our experience was great. The house is very clean, modern and has everything you need. The beach is only a very short walk away. The views are great and in a very quiet neighborhood. Anything else you would need while staying there is located very close by. No need to drive any distance in the traffic.

Great Vacation

Great house very close to the beach. It is set right on a wild dune where we saw a family of gray foxes, deer, toads, and all sorts of birds.

The beaches were very nice, not too crowded by our boardwalk and a short walk (100 yards or less) got you to either a life guard station, or a stretch of beach that was pretty much empty (because of the dune preservation.)

The only possible downside is the VERY steep set of stairs on the boardwalk that lead you to the beach. After a few days with very sore calf muscles going back and forth, we learned to bring everything we needed in one trip. The steepness is probably a non-starter for anyone who isn't able to climb stairs well, there are a lot of them.

The house was located close to a Supermarket and some restaurants, which was very handy because traffic is heavy heading south towards Duck, Kitty Hawk, etc. This is probably not a good choice for someone who wants access to the shopping and nightlife scenes down that way. This house is best for "beach bum" types that want to go to spend their day by the ocean and cook meals at home.

Overall a great place.

The beach accesses in Corolla normally are steep with many stairs - this is because our natural defender (the dunes) are taller in comparison to the southern beaches. We are grateful for their protection, our lovely wide beaches, and our great toned legs ;) For future trips if you'd like to skip the work out we suggest the beach access across from the Currituck Lighthouse (off of Corolla Village Road). This access has no stairs and only ramps. Not as convenient as the access by this home, but for those that can't tackle the stairs daily it's a great alternative. Star Sailor Still a Star

We have stayed at Star Sailor for several years now as it suits our family well. The street is quiet, the house is close to beach access, and, even though we are on the beach every day, access to the community pool at the end of the day is a hit with our grandchildren.

Star Sailor was a great house! Very clean, kitchenware very well stocked...enough for large families! Very close to beach access and pool! 5mins away from shopping, dining, Lighthouse, go karts, putt putt, Wild horse tours!! Definitely recommend this beach house!!

Two master bathrooms looked recently renovated. Appliances also looked new and.....a garbage disposal! Sleeps more but recommend no more than 6 people.

We had a wonderful week. The express check in was a great feature as we got in late on Sunday. House was in great shape and well supplied, extra blankets and pillow and the kitchen was clean. Had problem with master bath toilet and management company had someone out to fix it the same day. Close to beach and community pool was appreciated. We stayed in this property several times years ago and liked it then and after completely renovated was greatly enjoyed.

The house was a perfect location and size for our family. Unfortunately, it was not clean when we arrived. We paid for early checkin, but still expected cleanliness. The plus for this house to rent was two outside showers, but they did not work well. Our front door lock was broken, but fixed in a reasonable timeframe. The hot water heater broke, and was also fixed in a reasonable time. The weather was hot, so it was nice to be close to the beach access, but boy were those steps alot. I would rent this house again.

The house is beautiful and in a great location. We only have one negative comment and perhaps it was a misunderstanding on our part. We were a bit surprised to find we had to supply our own toilet paper, dishwasher soap, hand soaps, etc. Seems somewhat wasteful to have every renter go to town to purchase a full bottle of each for a 7 day rental. Since we flew in from Minnesota it would not be possible to pack all of these things.

Update the view

First - this was a great house, very convenient (2 min walk) to beach or pool. Our family of 10 fit comfortably and the house and furnishings were clean and fairly up to date. Kitchen equipment (pots, pans, & utensils) met our needs and the master shower was quite nice. The reason for being at the beach isn’t TV so the small size of the LR TV wasn’t a problem – there was a large gaming TV downstairs which stole our 15 year olds attention. The washing machine had a difficult time spinning water out of clothes and the dryer is noisy so don’t plan to use it when people are sleeping. The hot tub was good and the hammock on the lower deck was great. In addition to the great walking location to beach and pool, it’s only a 1 mile drive to the left or right on 12 to get to the principle shopping areas in Corolla. For groceries, restaurants, or ubiquitous Super Wings.
Our only complaint is the representation of the view in the listing. The photo in the listing shows the ocean overtop the dunes. In reality, standing or sitting on the deck, all you see is dunes. Standing on the table I could see a little of the ocean....maybe the photographer was standing on the hot tub to take the picture? The other view that is missing from the listing is the view of the neighbor’s deck. The neighboring house sits perpendicular to Star Sailor and the deck facing the ocean (with the view of the dunes) is about 20’ from the neighboring deck with an almost voyeuristic view of the entire deck, especially the hot tub. If you look at the Star Sailor picture of the dunes, on the right side you can see the far end of the neighbor’s deck...the rest is much closer. Not that it would be a deal breaker, but it would have been nice to know upfront that the view from the deck is equally shared between the neighbors hot tubbing and the dunes.
