Outer Banks Stand Up Paddle (SUP) is a family-owned and operated business that prides itself in customer care. It’s the first in the area to specialize in this ancient sport of Hawaiian heritage that’s reemerging and growing in popularity.

Owners Rob and Michelle say the sport is easy to learn, and they’ve taught people ranging in ages from 4 to 83 - and their location on the calm and shallow waters of the Currituck Sound is ideal for lessons and long-paddle workouts. The introductory lesson, which is highly recommended, provides instruction on balance, safety guidelines and proper paddle techinque. Instructors remain in the water throughout the lesson to ensure safety.

Rob and Michelle also take pride in the high quality of their board rentals and the SUP gear they sell. They offer custom hand-crafted Tim Nolte boards, along with NSP and Starboard - all come with leashes - and their paddles have taped blades to protect the paddler and the board. OBX SUP is the only company that offers more advanced paddlers top of the line custom Tim Nolte board rentals.

Outer Banks Stand Up Paddle is located on the Duck Road at the North Duck Watersports location, just south of the Sanderling Inn. Lessons are by appointment only, and SUP rentals are available on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. For 3-day and weekly rentals, delivery is free on the north beaches. Discounts for early lessons and military personnel are available. Though their main season is May through September, the owners are available year round for lessons and rentals.
