Visitors and locals alike who adore sea turtles and who want to help these beloved critters along the Outer Banks can learn all about the practices and steps required to become a NEST volunteer at the NEST Training: Orientation & Natural History session in the northern Outer Banks.
This free session, which is held at the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education in the heart of Corolla, will illuminate the life of sea turtles along the Outer Banks – from when they first nest along the beaches, to when the baby turtles hatch and make a mad dash to the Atlantic Ocean. The session also serves as training for potential new and returning NEST volunteers, who want to donate time in assisting local sea turtles in a myriad of ways, such as identifying tracks, or “nest sitting” in the nights and hours leading up to a turtle hatch. Serving as a fun way to volunteer in the local community, as well as a unique opportunity to learn about the fascinating sea turtles that call the Outer Banks a temporary home, this session is sure to be an enlightening event that visitors and locals alike will remember. Advanced registration is required to attend, and can be done so online or by calling 252.453.0221 ex. 1.
