The river otters are well known as some of the most playful and show-stopping residents of the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, and during this special event, visitors can go behind the scenes to learn all about these beloved critters.

The “Happy Otter Hour” starts with a presentation on otter behavior and biology as participants construct an enrichment toy to share with these very playful animals. Next, participants will enjoy a true otter snack before heading to the tank and watching as the otters enjoy a snack of their own, as well as a little playing with the recently created batch of toys. After a playful session, visitors will even get a glance behind the scenes of the otter exhibit, to see the massive tank in full, as the otters continue to play in the front of the exhibit.

This outing is open to all visitors ages 6 and up, and kids ages 6-12 must be accompanied by an adult to participate. Closed shoe toes are also required, and visitors can sign up for this special Happy Hour in advance online. With lots of giggles to go around, this family-friendly event is sure to make a visit to the aquarium even brighter, and simply unforgettable.
