Enjoy an evening of stargazing in a remote location on Hatteras Island with this special guided program that’s orchestrated by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The Dark Skies and Stars on Hatteras Island event allows visitors to head to a quiet corner of the island shoreline to watch as the sun sets, and the stars come out in a glittering show.

The event takes place every Tuesday in the summertime, and visitors will meet at the ORV Ramp 27 parking lot, just south of Salvo, to enjoy the show. This stretch of shoreline that is at least 2-3 miles away from any development provides a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the stars, and visitors are welcome to bring along the beach chairs and beach blankets to take it all in. (Bug spray is also highly recommended, and especially on warm nights with little to no wind.) A friendly Cape Hatteras National seashore park ranger will indicate stars and sights of interest, as attendees lean back and take in the impressive view. A fun event for kids and adults alike, the Dark Skies and Stars on Hatteras Island allows visitors to see how breathtaking this island can be – especially at night.
