Lost Colony Brewery at Stumpy Point and Pub at Nags Head Waterfront

Located in Stumpy Point on Dare County mainland, this 10,000 sq ft facility houses the heartbeat of the brewery. We brew daily on our 30 barrel brewhouse to create the freshest and best English-style ales to be found on the coast. Paul Charron opened the beast in 2016, after years of brewing on a two-barrel system in the 300 sq. ft. pub in Manteo. Stumpy Point scored the perfect tri-fecta of potable water, space, and an awesome waterfront view. Today we are pushing out enough beer to keep over 100 local eateries stocked and ready to pour for the thirsty denizens of the OBX. It has never been a better time to ‘Get Lost.” Try our Tasting Room at Nags Head Waterfront.

This beer so deserved a "DANIEL ZIEGLER" video. I think this is the best beer we ever brewed.
Cheers to Keagan, the brewer, it is his recipe.
Cheers to Steven, the head brewer he makes it happen.
Cheers to me I write the checks. (Wait actually Sharon writes the checks. I am not allowed near the money).
Cheers to Sharon she writes the checks.
Cheers to me, for finding a job where apparently I do nothing.

A lot of old songs and poems mention Guinness’ Porter not Stout.
This is because in1788 Guinness first brewed Porter beer. It wasn’t until about 1830 that Guinness brewed a Stout. The term “stout” referred to the strength of the beer. So, it was a “stout” porter. It was a “strong” porter. By definition, stout means strong/heavy.
Over time bar patrons shortened “stout Porter please” to simply, “ give me a stout.
When England started taxing beer by the amount of alcohol it contained Guinness and other brewers simply reduced the amount of alcohol in Stouts. This basically negated the difference between the two beers.
Confused? But wait there’s more. Today Porters tend to be higher in alcohol than stouts. Porters have 5.5 to 6.9 alcohol by volume while stouts are in the 5 ABV and under range. Guinness stout like our Charon stout has 4.2 ABV.
One thing that most brewers can agree upon is Stouts are brewed with roasted barley and porters are not.
BTW Our Manteo Porter follows the old school ways. It has an ABV of 4.5 proving you do not need a lot of alcohol to have a lot of flavor.

Family, Friends, and Heritage three words that together mean St. Patrick’s Day.
Lauren V. captured them all in a special label for me. Grandson Finn(of Finn McCool Rootbeer fame) Mets pint glass on the Irish bar, with Pop’s book and pint in the corner.

Going out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Here are some bar rules you need to follow.
1. Do not ask silly questions on the phone like: are you busy? - do you serve green beer -if I come in at 8pm will there be a seat at the bar?
2. Do not ask for the wine list.
3. Do not ask for a mojito, a pina-colada or anything requiring a blender.
4. Do not ask for a vegan corned beef and cabbage option. Its cabbage!( just know the cabbage probably touched the corned beef at some point)
5. No fake Irish accents. You all sound like Swedish pirates.
6. Shamrocks not four-leaf clovers.
7. It is St. Paddy’s Day not St. Patty’s Day.
8. Stop saying the Guinness in Ireland is sooo much better. Everyone already knows about your bus tour of Ireland in 2004.

Erin go Bragh most often translated as Ireland Forever.
Well Mary Ellen Riddle has her own twist. Erin go Bra-less
This is the last of our make our beer names more Irish winners.
No t-shirts sorry.
No we are not really changing our names. I keep saying this because I get hate mail. One gentleman from Kitty Hawk wants me to do something I am sure is physically impossible. And a lady called me a SAGA dupe. I have no idea what she thought was happening.

The Beer Ranger draft truck would like to attend your St Patrick’s Day party!

We had so much fun pouring beer at random parties last year we would liked to do it again. So after pouring samples at the parade on the seventeenth we will be available for quick visits to as many parties as we can make it to. We come. We buy a round. We move on.

St Patricks Day has always been special to our family and we would like to share the Craic with the OBX.

Text me your PARTY’S address and we will do our best. “while supplies last”.
252 305 3666. Of course a cuppa tea and some soda bread would help us along with our work. Just saying

Here is another winner in our Make Our Beer Names Irish contest
Leslie Burke Tarver. She remembered St Brigid or maybe she read my posts.
We are not really changing names.
We are not making T-Shirts.
We will have stickers.
We love Lauren V. For her art and for keeping me from stabbing another laptop . ( even if the laptop deserves it)
