Roanoke Island Festival Park



When the settlers first arrived there were mixed emotions among the local tribes. That perspective is explored in the film theater with a presentation of the 50 minute docudrama "The Legend of Two Path" produced by the North Carolina School of the Arts. The film explores how English settlement of the region was perceived from the Native American viewpoint.

The nearby North Carolina Maritime Museum, in partnership with the Roanoke Island Commission, the town of Manteo and the North Carolina Maritime Museum headquartered in Beaufort,NC is a small branch that was opened in the downtown area of Manteo across the bridge from the Island Park and is a must visit when in the area. You'll learn about the craft of boat building and the nautical lifestyle of the Outer Banks with artifacts and various demonstrations. The museum is located at 106 Fernando Street in Manteo and is a short stroll along the waterfront from Festival Park. Admission is free and the hours do vary according to the season so you may want to plan ahead. While down along the waterfront the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse is just at the end of the block.

Learn 16th century survival skills of the early settlers such as carpentry and candle making along with other necessary crafts of the period.
Park admission is good for two consecutive days and includes the sailing ship Elizabeth II, the Settlement Site, the Roanoke Adventure Museum, the "Legend of Two Path" film, the History Garden and any daily scheduled programs. Also on site is The Pavilion, a large outdoor theater with scheduled performances from North Carolina School of the Arts all summer long; a Museum Store with abundant treasures; The Gallery, which features monthly changing exhibits; sound side boardwalks which adjoin the Roanoke Island bike path; and more. The Museum Store and Roanoke Festival Park Art Gallery are free.
