The Aycock Brown Welcome Center is situated on a rolling dune at Milepost 1 on the US 158 Bypass in Kitty Hawk. The Center, operated by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau has free promotional information about Outer Banks attractions and accommodations as well as information about the surrounding region. Friendly and knowledgeable staff is on hand to answer questions. A reservation service is also available.
The Welcome Center is named for photographer, writer and publicist Aycock Brown, the first director of the Dare County Tourist Bureau. Brown estimated that during his career he took over 100,000 photographs of the area, many of which are now housed at the
Outer Banks History Center in Manteo.
The Aycock Brown Welcome Center also offers exhibits about the history and culture of the Outer Banks, picnic tables and shelters with grills and public restrooms.
